Description
The Supplier Quality Engineer role is responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing of our performance cars, working with designers, engineers, suppliers, and manufacturing as an important individual contributor to a successful vehicle programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Support the supplier nomination process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities.
· Work with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to define process parameters and ensure supplier process capability meets product and process requirements.
· Lead the supplier activity throughout the process from design and supplier nomination through to PPAP approval including measurement & inspection strategy.
· Define & publish quality standards.
· Manage first off PPAP sample approvals.
· Manage the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activity.
· Support new product launches to ensure that supplier quality meets the required standards.
· Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues.
· Perform on-site supplier visits for verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues.
· Work with the supplier to create corrective action plans to address process failures.
· Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with suppliers on process improvement & value enhancement opportunities.
· Promote techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA)
· Facilitate the escalation of unresolved supplier quality issues.
· Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system.
· Write reports and present progress at project meetings and to clients.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
· Understanding of manufacturing processes used in powertrain would be an advantage, experience in ICE, transmission, Electric Motors, Batteries and associated HV electrical systems would be highly valued.
· Experience of working in engineering or technology role in a relevant industry with a proven record of meeting needs of Internal and External customers.
· Experience of APQP or similar quality integration into project delivery processes with new model introduction requirements.
· External Auditor experience is essential, ideally qualified external auditor to ISO9001, IATF16949 or equivalent.
· Must be able understand and interpret engineering drawings.
· Ability to Travel in the UK and internationally as required. (Most of our supplier base is in the UK). Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
· Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
· Must be a team player.
Desirable
· Experience of working in a stand-alone SQE role, experience of designing or developing relevant processes.
· Competent in standard MS Office packages, advanced Excel skills.
· Additional development of databases or data analysis using python.
· Experience of using a Lean Six Sigma approach with fundamental understanding of process capability, ideally with at least green qualification. Good understanding of metrology techniques and equipment and GD&T.
