Overview
The Senior Management Accountant will be responsible for preparing and delivering accurate and timely management accounts for the business. The role will also oversee accounting for joint ventures, ensure adherence to financial procedures, and provide financial insight to support decision-making across the business.
Base pay range
£70,000 - £80,000 plus Car Allowance & Bonus
Four days in the office
Role Scope
Provide a comprehensive accounting service to the business and related entities, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Internal/External Relationships
* External: Banks, Joint Venture Partners, External Auditors
* Internal: Finance Team, Regional Directors, Commercial Teams, Overhead Budget Holders
Delivery
* Prepare monthly management accounts for the business.
* Oversee the preparation of accounts for the joint venture.
* Coordinate information from internal teams to deliver accounts on time.
* Complete balance sheet reconciliations (including PAYE, pensions, and wages control).
* Analyse variances and liaise with key staff to provide explanations.
* Prepare year-end audit packs and liaise with external auditors.
* Review statutory accounts at year end.
* Conduct staff expenses analysis.
* Manage the CITB return process.
* Deliver payment practices reporting for the Group.
* Oversee site and other recharge processes.
* Act as finance system administrator (user/contract setup etc.).
* Manage fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, and stock reporting.
* Collate information and prepare the PSA return.
* Provide ad hoc financial support to the wider finance team.
Skills, Experience & Attributes
* Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
* Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience.
* Construction or housebuilding sector experience preferred.
* Strong ability to present financial information clearly to varied audiences.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Strong understanding of financial systems and software.
* Proactive, self-driven, and results-oriented.
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with accuracy.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Team player with a collaborative approach.
