Role and Responsibilities: The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be working on the detailed mechanical design of electromechanical parts for a medical device in a multidisciplinary science, engineering, and project management team. You will consider multiple solutions, evaluate their trade-offs, and proceed based on well-reasoned justifications to implement improvements. You will work in an organised manner to capture design decisions and the rationale behind them. The role will require using your expertise and experience to analyse designs and generate experiments as appropriate to minimise uncertainty and verify the correctness of assumptions. Based on your ability to carefully interpret data and information you will elicit feedback from others on your work as appropriate to minimise the risk of design oversights. To effectively communicate across and up within the company as well as with external parties your excellence in providing clear, concise and accurate written and verbal information will be vital so it may be reviewed effectively by others. Using your high level and experience of risk management, you will work diligently to plan, manage, and control technical risks throughout projects, carrying out risk analyses as appropriate including specifying and implementing risk control measures. This may include the development and transfer of support tooling and test equipment into manufacturing. The design outputs you produce, optimized for manufacturability, will be of a high quality, (e.g. performance and test data, engineering drawings), as will the inputs used to generate them (e.g. technical requirements, design prototypes). Required Experience Proven experience in owning and delivering mechanical engineering projects, ideally within electromechanical systems, automated diagnostic devices, or precision engineered solutions. Robust design, testing, and manufacturing oversight experience. Knowledge of manufacturing processes (i.e., Design for Manufacture) relevant to machined metal and injection moulded parts. Experience specifying quality control measures for components in serial production i.e. testing and measurement. Experience specifying, developing, and transferring test equipment into manufacturing. Experience in leading discussions with suppliers, manufacturers, technicians, and multidisciplinary technical teams. Required Skills : Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered or working towards preferred) Proficiency in producing detailed mechanical calculations and technical documentation. Ability to lead technical design and project delivery, independently. >5 years of experience in mechanical design, with proven record in product development and project management. Experience of working within a regulated industry where Quality Systems are essential, e.g., ISO 13485. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for 3D modelling, simulation, and technical drawing, along with knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials. Strong and demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills, with a direct approach to troubleshooting and experimentation. Excellent verbal and written communication, and teamwork skills. Capable of managing projects individually with minimal supervision.
