Job Summary
We are looking to welcome a phlebotomist to join our dynamic and supportive team at Village Health Group. We welcome applicants with or without GP surgery experience. If you have the right skills and qualities, we can provide on-going support to develop professionally.
Key responsibilities
* Perform venepuncture to collect blood samples from patients as requested by GPs, nurses, or other clinicians.
* Prepare and label specimens accurately and ensure safe and timely transport to the relevant laboratories.
* Maintain accurate patient records using the clinical system (SystmOne).
* Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
* Reassure and support patients who may feel anxious or nervous about the procedure.
* Monitor stock levels of phlebotomy equipment and request resupply when necessary.
* Work closely with the wider clinical and administrative team to ensure smooth clinic operation.
* Ensure patient safety and dignity is maintained at all times.
* Escalate any concerns about a patient’s condition or wellbeing to the appropriate clinician.
* Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives as required.
* Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with GDPR and NHS guidelines.
Requirements
Experience
* Previous experience of venepuncture in a healthcare setting.
* Phlebotomy qualification/certificate or evidence of formal training.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Good IT and record-keeping skills.
* Understanding of the importance of infection control and patient confidentiality.
* Compassionate, calm, and professional approach to patient care.
Desirable
* Experience working in a GP practice or community health setting.
* Knowledge of NHS systems such as SystmOne, or similar.
* Basic life support training.
* Awareness of health and safety and safeguarding procedures.

Salary: £12.21 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Part-time (22.5 hours per week, 5 days per week)
Additional Information
Disclosure and Barring Service check required. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a DBS disclosure.
Applicants must be located within twenty miles of Keyworth. Please note that VHG/PH do not have tier two sponsorship status. Previous applicants need not apply.
