A well-established, engineering-led business operating within the standby power and critical power sector is seeking a Generator Engineer to join its service and support team. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality generator solutions across the UK, the business continues to invest in its engineers, internal progression, and long-term staff development.

This is a home-based, field service role, ideal for an engineer with strong mechanical and electrical knowledge who enjoys working independently while delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:
Travel to customer sites across the UK to carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of generator brands
Perform planned and reactive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, inspections, and performance testing
Carry out diagnostics, fault finding, and rectification of mechanical and electrical generator faults
Undertake installation and commissioning of generator systems, both portable and fixed
Complete load bank testing, performance verification, and post-installation testing
Diagnose and repair alternators, batteries, control panels, wiring, ATS, and associated power systems
Maintain accurate and detailed service reports, documenting work completed and parts used
Communicate clearly with customers, explaining faults, solutions, and operational guidance
Participate in an on-call rota and respond to emergency breakdowns where required
Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations, including risk assessments and PPE use
Represent the business professionally on-site, acting as a brand ambassador at all timesRequirements:
Proven experience in generator servicing, maintenance, installation, or commissioning
Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding capability
Understanding of load balancing, power distribution, and control systems
Experience using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and engine diagnostic software
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing workload effectively
Strong customer-facing and communication skills
Willingness to travel nationwide, including occasional nights awayQualifications:

HNC / HND / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
