The Tax Advisory Services (TAS), within the Risk, Control, Financial Accounting (RCFA) Directorate, is part of HMRC's Chief Financial Officer's portfolio. This strategic specialist role delivers direct tax services for HMRC, ensuring compliance with HMRC's statutory Employer Duties (ED) and off-payroll (IR35) obligations. It also provides detailed advisory and assurance functions across ED policy and process.
About TAS:
Across HMRC, TAS provides tax advice and assurance covering the entire department, including:
* Ensuring tax returns for HMRC and the VOA are completed accurately and submitted on time.
* Sampling transactional data on a risk-based approach to provide additional tax assurance.
* Supporting the department's financial controls with Off-Payroll engagements (IR35).
* Developing and maintaining appropriate risk controls across all tax regimes.
* Responding promptly to changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
* Providing timely and professional tax advice to the wider department.
* Offering bespoke tax training to key business areas and stakeholders.
* Managing and responding to audit demands and recommendations.

This pivotal tax technical leadership role requires proven experience in UK Employer Duties (PAYE & NIC), ideally with large or international organizations, and relevant qualifications (CTA or HMRC's TSP).
