Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to join the Aquatic Ecology Team at AECOM. You will provide technical expertise and undertake surveys for new and existing projects, and contribute to the growth and development of the team. Projects include work for the Environment Agency, Natural England, water companies, renewable‑energy developments, and nationally significant infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Collect and process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples in the laboratory, and conduct benthic macroinvertebrate surveys; assist with fieldwork and sample collection for macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, water quality, and related activities.
* Assist with the production of Environmental Impact Assessment documents in line with CIEEM guidelines.
* Support data entry, analysis, and processing for freshwater projects; contribute to survey reports, ecological appraisals, desk studies, and literature reviews.
* Deliver consultancy and advisory services to a high level of technical quality, prioritising safety and security.
* Collaborate with other environmental specialists and disciplines on large and small projects.
Qualifications
* Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in aquatic ecology, environmental science, or a related subject with prior experience in aquatic ecology.
* Knowledge of current environmental legislation, including the Water Framework Directive.
* Experience of aquatic ecology surveys such as fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey, and similar.
* Member of CIEEM (or similar professional body), or eligible to qualify for membership.
