We have fantastic opportunities for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager within our Mental Health Healthcare Services at HMP Birmingham.
HMP Birmingham is an Adult Category B prison with diverse nursing needs, currently holding a maximum of 980 prisoners, including both sentenced and remand adult males, serving Birmingham Crown and Magistrates courts.
This role offers a unique opportunity to embrace change and embed culture. It requires a diverse nursing background and attracts professionals from areas such as Assertive Outreach and Forensic Services.
Our structured Mental Health Services support a stepped care model, including:
1. Assessment of prisoners within a 24-hour healthcare environment, with 15 dedicated cells.
2. A Community Mental Health Team providing early help, signposting, and primary and secondary mental health care models similar to those in the wider community.
We seek a nurse with a strong understanding of the needs of the prisoner/offender population who can bring innovation to our services.
The post holder will be responsible for:
* Facilitating, promoting, and supervising education, clinical practices, and audits.
* Managing the clinical area in the absence of the Clinical Team Manager.
* Overseeing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, with knowledge of relevant policies and legislation.
* Identifying and contributing to training needs.
* Promoting equality, diversity, and rights in line with good practice and legislation.
* Ensuring effective communication pathways.
* Participating in assessment for 24-hour healthcare bed management and admission decisions.
* Developing evidence-based care packages to support mental health recovery in prisons.
* Engaging in education and training related to mental and physical health pathways.
