We are a well-established, yet rapidly expanding logistics provider undergoing significant investment and searching for a highly ambitious Commercial Manager to focus specifically on accelerating the growth of our Freight Forwarding division (Air, Road, and Sea solutions across the UK, excluding Scotland).
This is a pivotal role that combines strategic leadership with hands-on sales responsibilities, offering the chance to make a substantial impact on our commercial success.
The Role: Reporting directly to the Senior Leadership Team, the Commercial Manager will be responsible for driving market share, increasing profitability, and building high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Strategy: Devise and execute the commercial strategy for the freight forwarding division, focusing on increasing turnover, margin, and client base across the UK (excluding Scotland).
Sales & Business Development: Actively win new business by identifying, pursuing, and closing significant freight forwarding opportunities (Air, Road, Sea). Opportunity to cross-sell our own fleet logistics solutions where appropriate, but the primary focus is freight forwarding growth.
Team Management (Operations): Manage, mentor, and motivate our established team of 8 skilled Freight Operators, ensuring exceptional service delivery and operational efficiency.
Team Growth (Sales): Recruit, train, and build a new, dedicated sales team from the ground up to support the ambitious growth targets.
Performance: Take full P&L responsibility for growth within the division, implementing performance metrics and driving a culture of continuous improvement. About You: You are a results-oriented, people-driven leader with a proven track record in the UK logistics and freight forwarding sector. You thrive in a traditional business environment that is embracing modernisation and investment.
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience at a Commercial or Sales Management level within a UK Freight Forwarding business.
Demonstrable success in personally winning and developing significant new business.
Experience in managing and leading operational or sales teams; experience in building a sales team is highly desirable.
Deep understanding of Air, Road, and Sea freight solutions across the UK market (excluding Scotland).
A strong sales acumen, commercial awareness, and a highly ambitious approach to career and business growth.
