The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke has an opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join our Life Sciences and Healthcare portfolio across the country. The role can be based from any of our Laing O'Rourke offices including Dartford, Sale, Leeds, Newcastle, St Neots, Glasgow, and the factory in Worksop.
A Laing O'Rourke Senior Design Manager leads the delivery of effective design across multiple projects or a single large-scale project. They focus on leading the pre-construction phase design processes, liaising with clients, the design team, in-house bid team, and the operations team. On live projects, they implement and lead processes that enable design to be challenged and interrogated within a collaborative team framework to reduce risks.
The Senior Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects, from pre-project, early engagement, and work-winning through to detailed delivery. All our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, which aims to maximize and realize the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.
What will the role look like?
* Providing focus and leadership for pre-construction briefing and design processes.
* Leading Laing O'Rourke's design management procedures, acting as a link between commercial and construction teams and designers throughout the project lifecycle.
* Implementing processes that enable design challenges within a collaborative team framework.
* Managing the production, control, and distribution of design information at various project stages.
* Ensuring regular progress reporting of the design.
* Reviewing design information for buildability, safety, maintainability, completeness, compliance, and technical suitability before use.
* Supporting the Design Leader in promoting innovation in design management, methodology, processes, and practices.
* Promoting the company's vision and values in all design management activities.

What skills & experience are we looking for?
* First degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant construction-related qualification plus design experience.
* Approximately 10 years of experience, sector specialization, and broad experience managing the design of design-construction or building services projects. Likely international experience.
