Job Description
As a Solar Electrician (Journeyman), you are responsible for providing hands-on technical expertise at multiple PV plant sites to meet maintenance requirements and troubleshoot/repair equipment issues, including emergency repairs and O&M support. Your expertise will be utilized in disciplines such as PV array, inverter, medium voltage, battery storage (BESS), and other solar services. You will conduct regular maintenance, repairs, installations, and assist in training technicians, as well as oversee contractors and subcontractors in field operations.
Essential Duties
* Maintain, diagnose, and repair system failures on solar sites, identifying potential issues affecting performance.
* Perform equipment assessments, diagnostics, and modifications.
* Develop solutions for site operations issues and communicate with operations teams.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures; perform preventative maintenance.
* Ensure safety compliance and lead safety initiatives.
* Prepare reports and service tickets for site visits and repairs.
* Coordinate with customers, engineers, technicians, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure timely maintenance and repairs.
Education & Certification Requirements
* Journeyman license required.
Experience
* At least 1 year of electrical experience with a valid electrical license.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge & Certifications
* Inverter and/or BESS manufacturer certifications.
* Thermography Level 1 certification.
* Familiarity with RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP.
* NABCEP PV Installer Certification.
* OSHA 30 Certification.
* NFPA 70E courses completion.
* CPR/First Aid certification.
Functional Knowledge
* Understanding of electrical codes, design, and construction practices.
* Ability to read electrical diagrams and construction drawings.
Company/Industry Knowledge
* Knowledge of electrical utilities and solar energy installation and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
* Ability to work safely on uneven terrain and in extreme weather conditions.
* Ability to climb ladders while carrying weight and sit or drive for extended periods.
