The Hungerford Surgery is looking for a salaried GP to join our primary care team. We foster an open collaborative working environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute to practice development and share in our ethos. There is an emphasis on good work‑life balance, with most staff leaving on time even after a busy duty day. We focus on professional development through regular educational meetings and in‑house training. Our multidisciplinary team includes Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacy Technician, Mental Health Practitioner, Social Prescriber, First Contact Musculoskeletal Physician and nursing staff experienced in chronic disease management. Our management, administration team and care navigators are highly trained to reduce the administrative load, allowing staff to concentrate on patient care. We meet weekly for practice, clinical, and training meetings and hold daily coffee breaks to foster team cohesion.


Responsibilities

* Perform surgery, telephone and home consultations, and respond to queries.
* Check and sign repeat prescriptions, compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
* Make professional, autonomous decisions for self‑referred and referred patients.
* Assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated or undiagnosed problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans in consultation with patients, following current disease‑management protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Admit or discharge patients to/from the caseload and refer to other providers as appropriate.
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Collect data for audit purposes and contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives.
* Maintain caseload and manage workload, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
* Ensure compliance with prescribing formulary and general medical practice guidelines.
* Adhere to practice policies on prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, and infection control.
* Participate in continuous professional development, including annual reviews, study days, and relevant training programmes.
* Attend practice meetings, training sessions, and events organized by the practice or other agencies.
* Support the team's quality initiatives by identifying issues, reviewing performance, and making improvement suggestions.


Health & Safety & Confidentiality

* Implement and lead on infection‑control and health‑and‑safety policies, including PPE use, hand hygiene, and incident management.
* Maintain personal and practice confidentiality, protecting sensitive patient and staff information in accordance with practice procedures and data‑protection legislation.
* Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of sharps and medical waste.
* Identify and report safety hazards and implement remedial actions immediately.
* Comply with national and contractual infection‑control standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

* Fully qualified GP with GMC registration.
* UK driving licence (if required) and UK work permit (if applicable).
* Enhanced CRB check and medical defence cover.
* Experience with a variety of clinical software systems and computer literacy.
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
* Annual appraisal and re‑validation, where appropriate.
