Job summary
We are looking for a talented, forward thinking Pharmacist to be Deputy Chief Pharmacist at London North West University Healthcare. The Deputy Chief Pharmacist supports the Chief Pharmacist in developing the vision and strategy for Medicines Optimisation within the Trust and plays a key role in service delivery.
You will be responsible for developing and managing Trust wide, as well as within the pharmacy department, to support the Medicines Optimisation and transformation agenda.. This includes the development of an Electronic prescribing and Medicines Administration system, rationalization of systems and improving efficiency, data capture and income through digital technology.
The postholder chairs the Trust Medical Gases Committee which reports to the Drugs and Therapeutics Group.
In the absence of the Chief Pharmacist, the Deputy Chief Pharmacist provides the professional and managerial leadership for all Pharmacy services within the Trust and those related to Medicines Optimisation.
You will support the Chief Pharmacist and the Team in the development and implementation of all medicines management policies and ensuring that medicines management within the Trust satisfies legal obligations, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency licensing requirements and all other regulatory and professional standards of practice.
Main duties of the job
1. Contributes to setting the vision, strategy and operational delivery of Medicines Optimisation for the Trust and the Pharmacy Department Business Plan with the Chief Pharmacist and the Senior Pharmacy Management Team.
2. Responsible for the implementation of the Medicines Optimisation Strategy and Delivery Plan, Supports the Chief Pharmacist in managing and developing all aspects of the pharmacy service to patients and staff to meet regulators requirements, national standards and current legislation.
3. Responsible for ensuring the recruitment, training, management and appraisal of all pharmacy staff and direct reports within the structure across the Trust.
4. Provides professional advice on Medicines Optimisation to patients, medical, nursing, other healthcare professionals and Trust Management within Divisions to meet requirements of current legislation, regulators and local need.
5. Support the Chief Pharmacist to keep the pharmacy department expenditure within budget, for identifying cost pressures for drugs and services.
6. Member of the Trust Drugs and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) to optimise the use of medicines within the Trust and within the local health economy.
7. Responsible for risk management and standards of practice in consultation with Principal Pharmacist - Governance
8. Chair of the Trust's Medical Gas Committee
9. Participates in the provision of general pharmacy services such rostered weekends, public holidays, late duty and on- call duties.
