Job Description
The Men’s Health Editor will manage the magazine arm of the brand. Working closely with the Editor-in-chief and Multiplatform Director, they will build and implement an overall brand content strategy that drives success across all platforms, while ensuring MH retains its position as the UK’s number one men’s lifestyle title.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the magazine arm of the brand from ideation, commissioning, and editing through to proofreading.
* Assist the Editor-in-chief and Multiplatform Director in creating and realizing brand content strategy.
* Work closely with the Editor-in-chief and Multiplatform Director to ensure content positioning aligns with brand values and is understood by all staff.
* Work alongside the Multiplatform Director to optimize workflow, enabling writers and editors to contribute across platforms while achieving KPIs by creating purposeful content.
* Manage and support the team to create high-quality content that maintains editorial excellence.
* Host team brainstorms before each magazine production cycle and pitch key ideas to the Editor-in-chief.
* Collaborate with the Production Editor to create each issue’s flatplan, including additional booklets and training manuals.
* Assign tasks, set deadlines, and work with the production hub to ensure timely completion of all content.
* Ensure factual accuracy, legal safety, and tone consistency of all copy, liaising with legal when necessary.
* Approve layouts and proofread all magazine pages and cover booklets.
* Work with the Features Editor to pitch, commission, and edit digital-first stories.
* Build a strong relationship with MH US for collaboration opportunities.
* Coordinate with Hearst’s Partnerships Lead to optimize platform performance and amplify content.
* Deputize for the Editor-in-chief when needed, including managing cover shoots and signing off on commercial briefs.
* Manage relationships with talent agents and PRs.
* Approve and process invoices, ensuring print stays within budget.
* Assist the Editor-in-chief in liaising with commercial teams to explore revenue streams and partnerships.
* Communicate the brand’s vision to internal and external PRs, agents, and clients.
* Promote the brand through media and public appearances when necessary.
* Act as an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.
* Additional responsibilities may be taken on as aligned with your skills and experience.
Qualifications
* Proven experience managing the print arm of a brand and leading a team.
* Ability to remain composed under pressure, multitask, and maintain professionalism with multiple stakeholders.
* Experience in pitching, commissioning, and editing long-form features.
* Strong organizational skills to implement efficient publishing processes.
* Experience in budget management and understanding revenue models.
* A thorough knowledge of and passion for the Men’s Health brand is preferred.
