Job overview
We are pleased to announce a full-time Social Worker position within GMMH Andersen Ward Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). Located at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital, the MBU is a 10-bed inpatient unit for women experiencing acute perinatal mental health issues.
We seek confident, enthusiastic, and experienced social workers passionate about perinatal services. Candidates should have experience in perinatal mental health and/or children and family social services. The role involves developing and leading clinical practices within the MBU.
The ideal candidate will be registered with Social Work England and have completed their ASYE.
Main duties of the job
1. Work with the multidisciplinary team on the MBU, providing social work practice and support.
2. Ensure the needs of mothers and babies are met through social care support.
3. Offer social care advice and lead safeguarding efforts within the unit.
4. Collaborate with other agencies to support recovery, social inclusion, and social justice.
5. Maintain flexibility and a positive attitude towards service development.
6. Provide supervision, training, and mentorship to colleagues and newly qualified social workers.

Person specification
Education and Experience
* Qualification in Social Work (DipSW, BA/BSc, MSc).
* Current registration with Social Work England.
* Understanding of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Children Act, etc.).
* Experience in mental health or children’s and families settings.
* Experience with Child Protection proceedings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of how mental health impacts parent/child relationships.
* Ability to work confidently in multidisciplinary teams, including chairing meetings.
* Organizational and communication skills for managing complex information.
