About British Heart Foundation

British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the UK’s largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. Through our extensive portfolio of active research projects, we fund some of the most exciting and innovative cardiovascular research, supporting outstanding scientists from PhD students through to BHF Professors.

Role Overview

As a Research Advisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing our research strategy to life and support the discovery of new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory disease.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll primarily support all aspects of our personal awards, including advising applicants, reviewing funding applications and providing clear, constructive feedback. You will carry out due diligence on both project proposals and funded awards, whilst also supporting the Discovery Research Fellowships Committee by contributing to peer review processes and committee meetings.

Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

About You

With a strong knowledge and understanding of BHF, our mission and the importance of research, you’ll bring substantial research experience gained in academia and/or a related sector. You’ll be a proactive and collaborative team member, with excellent attention to detail and well‑developed analytical and interpersonal skills.

You’ll have outstanding communication, prioritisation and organisational skills, able to manage multiple deadlines effectively. Acting as an ambassador for BHF and its research achievements, you’ll confidently promote BHF and its research funding schemes to a wide range of audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with relevant experience and interests to make a meaningful contribution to the mission of one of the world’s leading funders of cardiovascular research.

Belonging at BHF

We celebrate and value the diversity of the communities we serve, recognising that embracing different perspectives and backgrounds strengthens our organisation and drives innovation. By fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and supported, we are better equipped to achieve our mission of helping people have a healthier heart for longer.

Benefits and Development

We offer a competitive range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, and opportunities for personal and professional growth and continuous learning. Need more help balancing your work and home life? Talk to us about what flexibility is available at the application or interview stage.

Interview Process

First-stage interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th May. The interview will include a presentation and a grant assessment exercise. A second-stage interview may be required and would take place in person at our London offices.

How to Apply

It’s quick and easy to apply for a role at the BHF. Just click through to our careers site to apply. All you’ll need is an up‑to‑date CV and a supporting statement, outlining your interest in the role and how you meet the role’s criteria. Our recruitment processes are fair, accessible, and inclusive. BHF use anonymous CV software as part of the application journey. Should you need any adjustments to the recruitment process, at either application or interview, please contact us.

Qualifications

* A PhD or equivalent in a biomedical science discipline.
* Experience of cardiovascular or related research at doctoral and/or postdoctoral level.
* The ability to interpret complex research data and communicate it clearly to non‑specialist audiences.
* An understanding of academic career pathways and the key areas where targeted support can be most beneficial.
