Offer description

Do you enjoy enabling others to grow, build confidence and realise their potential?

Join our student‑focused Careers Service and use your communication skills and commitment to development to make a meaningful difference.

We’re looking for a proactive, approachable and organised Employability Adviser to be a welcoming first point of contact within the Student Hub. You will provide high‑quality information and advice that helps students clarify their ambitions, gain confidence, and make progress towards their personal and professional goals. Supporting students on topics such as applications, interviews, career exploration and next steps beyond university, you will play a key role in their development journey.

About the Role

The Careers Service delivers a comprehensive programme of faculty‑based and central support, activities and opportunities to equip students with the skills, confidence and experience needed for success in the world of work. This role offers the chance to join a progressive, student‑centred service with a clear delivery plan—within a dynamic university and a beautiful location—where the impact of your work will be genuinely felt.

Based in the Student Hub (Library), Employability Advisers act as the first point of contact for student and graduate enquiries, in person and online. You will assess and triage enquiries, ensuring individuals are directed to the right support. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include delivering bookable one‑to‑one appointments, offering tailored careers information and advice, and signposting to specialist colleagues when needed. You will also deliver workshops and group sessions, and contribute to developing and promoting careers resources.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver a student‑focused, flexible front‑line information, advice and guidance service, supporting colleagues to promote consistent, high‑quality delivery.
* Produce accurate and timely documentation to support service delivery, including standard operating procedures, guidance notes and other core processes.
* Collate, write and maintain careers information across the website, MyCareer and other online platforms, ensuring content is clear, current and easy to navigate.
* Deliver pre‑booked quick‑query appointments, e‑advice, drop‑ins and other careers interventions for students.
* Organise meetings, visits and events within the Student Hub, coordinating facilities, social media and logistical arrangements to ensure smooth delivery.

About You

You may not have prior experience in higher education or careers work, but you will bring strong transferrable skills, enthusiasm, and a commitment to helping students succeed.

You will have:

* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, strong ICT capability, and a dedication to delivering high‑quality customer service.
* Experience in office‑based administrative and front‑line, customer‑facing roles, with the ability to build and maintain effective client relationships. Experience in higher education, careers or recruitment settings is advantageous.
* A flexible, adaptable approach with strong time‑management skills, and the ability to work across the full range of Careers Service provision, including occasional evening or weekend work.
* The ability to act as an ambassador for the Careers Service and a positive advocate for change.

Additional Information

* This position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
* The successful candidate must have the legal right to work in the UK.
* Due to the nature of the role, remote working cannot be accommodated.
* A Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check is required.
