Job Overview
The position is a Senior Pharmacy Technician within the aseptic services department at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Orpington, Kent. The role involves preparing chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody doses, TPN bags, and clinical trial formulations, while supporting the Aseptic Services Manager and ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Key Responsibilities
* Run the day‑to‑day operations of a section within the aseptic unit.
* Prepare, check, and dispense chemotherapy, immunotherapy, CIVAS, parenteral nutrition, and clinical trial doses.
* Maintain equipment, document all activities, and ensure quality assurance and validation processes are followed.
* Train and supervise junior staff, provide line‑management and support recruitment of technicians and cleanroom supervisors.
* Perform in‑process accuracy checks after competency accreditation.
* Generate worksheets and labels using the pharmacy computer system.
* Adhere to environmental monitoring, sterility testing, and culture media handling.
* Participate in on‑call rota for trials, short‑dated drugs, and extended hours (weekends, bank holidays).
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of aseptic processes and documentation.
* Support the Aseptic Services Manager in developing new services for the trust.
Qualifications and Experience
* NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge (e.g., BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences) or equivalent, plus registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Academic qualification at least a BSc related to medicines for human use, or completion of a Science Manufacturing Technician Level 3 apprenticeship.
* Pre‑ and In‑Process Checking Accreditation (PIPC).
Knowledge and Skills
* Demonstrable knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice and GMP procedures.
* Considerable experience working in an aseptic unit, with aseptic techniques and cytotoxic drug preparation.
* Supervisory and training delivery experience.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
* Strong problem‑solving abilities and the ability to work independently.
