QC Welding & Fabrication Inspector
Location: North East Scotland
A specialist engineering organisation is seeking a QC Welding & Fabrication Inspector to join its fabrication and quality team. This is a hands-on, shop-floor-based role focused on ensuring the highest standards of welding quality, compliance, and inspection across a range of fabricated components.
The Role
Working closely with fabrication and QA teams, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day inspection of welding and dimensional activities. The role plays a critical part in maintaining quality standards, supporting production schedules, and ensuring compliance with industry and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct pre-, during-, and post-weld inspections, ensuring compliance with procedures and specifications
* Verify material traceability, joint preparation, fit-up, and welding environments
* Perform visual and dimensional inspections on structural, pipework, and vessel assemblies
* Ensure correct welding procedures and qualified personnel are used for all tasks
* Coordinate NDT and mechanical testing activities
* Prepare and maintain weld maps, weld logs, and inspection reports
* Review weld quality, including radiographs where applicable
* Identify and manage non-conformances, including investigation and reporting
* Support QA documentation and ensure ISO quality standards are upheld
* Liaise with third-party inspectors and client representatives
* Monitor welding performance, including welder audits and process data recording
* Promote and maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance
Requirements
* CSWIP 3.1 certification (or equivalent, in-date)
* Strong knowledge of welding processes including MMA, TIG, MIG, MAG, Flux Core, and Sub Arc
* Experience working with a variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings (structural, piping, P&ID, and isometrics)
* Familiarity with NDT methods and quality documentation
* Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
