An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Strategy Officer to join the Public Protection Team at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. As an Environmental Strategy Officer, you will be instrumental in achieving both our proactive and reactive work programmes. You will work alongside an experienced group of officers who are knowledgeable, dedicated, hardworking, and committed to protecting the public while exploring innovative ways of providing a sustainable regulatory service across a wide range of services. Your responsibilities will include enforcing statutory provisions and providing relevant advice.
Our ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding or previous experience of working in Environmental Permitting, Local Air Quality Management, Statutory Nuisance, and Private Water Supplies. To succeed in this role, you will possess an approachable manner, excellent communication skills, and the ability to independently prioritize your workload. The role requires a committed and flexible officer to contribute to delivering the team's functions. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a variety of duties in a timely and effective manner, maintaining confidentiality in all areas related to the work of the Council.
You must have a relevant degree or equivalent with recent work experience in Environmental Protection/Environmental Permitting and believe you can make a valued contribution to our service. You should be able to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team, prioritizing and managing your workload. This post is classified as a professional role with a development grade, allowing progression based on relevant professional qualifications at Level 6 or above, a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience, maintained membership of a regulated body where applicable, and high professional standards. It is a customer-facing role under the fluency duty, requiring a specified level of spoken English.
