Highly Specialist Physiotherapist (Neonates)

Our Trust knows the value of Childrens Physiotherapy and we have newinvestment into our team to improve the outcomes of babies, children and youngpeople. We have an exciting opportunity for a (15 hours per week) Band 7 Highly SpecialistPhysiotherapist in our Childrens Physiotherapy Team, and we would like you tojoin us if you have the skills! You will join our well-established ChildrensPhysiotherapy service which supports children aged 0-19 years and will work inproviding support to the Neonatal Unit, linking into the community, acrossSunderland and South Tyneside. You will be a key part of our childrensphysiotherapy service and will have opportunity to develop your clinical andleadership skills. You will be predominantly based in our Sunderland siteproviding care across both Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. As a team wework together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to developstaff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will haveexcellent support and be part of a wider AHP neonatal team and the ChildrensIntegrated Therapy Service team too. You will be keen to drive services forwardas we change and develop. You will align to our vision and values to improvepatient outcomes and develop our workforce.


Main duties of the job

You will be based in Sunderland as part of our Childrens Physiotherapyteam that covers South Tyneside and Sunderland. You will be integral indeveloping the Service to, and providing support into, the Neonatal Unit at SRH,continuing care by linking with the Community Physiotherapy service. You willbe responsible for a wide neonatal caseload. You will have a comprehensiveknowledge and experience within paediatrics including pre-term babies andchildren with complex presentations. You will have experience of Paediatricassessment tools relating to pre-term infants. You will have experience of theEducation Health and Care Plans (Children and Families Act 2014), reportwriting and participation in associated meetings. You will have experience anda working knowledge of safeguarding. You will have the ability to work bothwithin a Physiotherapy team, MDT and wider teams. This is an excellentopportunity to work in a large team with other specialist clinicians. You willparticipate in, and be integral to, the clinical supervision, training andeducation of all staff, including students. You will be required to meet the travelrequirements of this Post.

Job responsibilities

The Postholder will work within the multidisciplinary team on the Neonatal unit at SunderlandRoyal Hospital including Nursing staff, Medical team, other Allied Health Professionals andsupport staff. This may also include any teams involved in care of babies who have receivedneonatal care who require further in-patient care in SRH.

Person Specification


Experience

* Comprehensive experience within Paediatric Physiotherapy at senior level incorporating experience within a range of specialisms within Paediatric Physiotherapy to include Neonatal care.
* Experience of policy / practice development in specialist area.
* Experience and high-level of skill in the use of and interpretation of a wide range of appropriate standardised formal and informal assessments and with a wide range of therapy approaches for client groups in service areas.
* Experience of supervising all levels of qualified Physiotherapy staff, assistants and students.
* Experience in designing and delivering training and education programmes to other professionals/students/ parents.
* Training and experience in staff and student supervision, staff and team development.
* Experience of collaborative planning with other organisations.


Skills & Knowledge

* Demonstrate skills in highly-specialist assessment, diagnosis and development of care plans, where clients have highly-complex needs.
* To be able to communicate highly-complex and sensitive condition-related information to clients/carers, multidisciplinary team members, other professionals often in the face of hostility and/or antagonism.
* Specific skills as follows:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including observational, listening & empathy skills.
* Proven organisational and planning skills.
* Ability to influence, motivate and facilitate development in others.
* Time-management and prioritisation skills.
* Good leadership skills as well as ability to be a successful team member.
* Service modernisation and redesign skills.
* High level of skills in complex information processing of information / facts that require analysis, interpretation and where a comparison of a range of options at a service and clinical level is necessary.
* Highly-skilled in contributing successfully to clinical teams for development of client care.
* Able to introduce innovative practice impacting on policy / service beyond own area of activity / Organisation.
* Highly-developed negotiation & problem-solving skills in complex situations, & ability to facilitate these skills in others.
* Ability to assimilate, synthesise & present highly-complex information / facts that require analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options at a service & clinical level.


Qualifications

* Evidence of extensive CPD and up to date knowledge within Paediatrics achieved through:
* post-graduate,
* specialist,
* advanced short courses,
* conferences (MSc equivalent).
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
* Highly-specialist knowledge of specialist assessment tools relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy.
* In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic assessments and interventions & an ability to compare & contrast relative benefits.
* An ability to critically appraise new ideas / approaches to therapy.
* Knowledge of the structure and functioning of the NHS, and how the Trust fits into the wider picture.
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/ audit/ research.
* Understanding of the roles of other professionals & the principles of partnership-working with key stakeholders.
* Knowledge of standards of record keeping and ability to monitor and audit this in own team.
* Attendance at management and leadership training to include and not exhaustive of short courses on a range of management and HR issues.
* Member of APCP or other Paediatric SIG.
* Knowledge of national and local policies & procedures relevant to health, social services & education and areas of responsibility.


Physical Skills

* Proven ability to motivate and lead staff and sustain developments.
* Ability to sustain prolonged positions and the physical demands of the role.
* Ability and knowledge of the moving and handling requirements of the role.
* Ability to sustain intense concentration on a frequent basis in all aspects of Service & Client Management.
* Requirement for speed and accuracy with keyboard skills.
* Ability to carry out the travel demands of the job between sites and within the community.
