We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Sports Specialists at the 48 Force Support Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
This position plays a key role in supporting and executing a diverse sports and athletic program for an Air Force organization. The primary focus is on intramural, varsity, and recreational sports, with responsibilities including program development, budget management for equipment and supplies, and coordination with officiating organizations. The incumbent serves as the Fitness Center's main point of contact for all intramural and varsity coaches, ensuring smooth program operations.

Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom, is located 70 miles northeast of London and 25 miles northeast of Cambridge. The Liberty Wing consists of more than 4,000 military members, over 1,500 British and U.S. civilians and includes a geographically separated unit at nearby RAF Feltwell. RAF Lakenheath is the largest U.S. Air Force-operated base in England and the only U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) F-35/F-15 fighter wing. Historically, the 48th FW has been the foundation of USAFE's combat capability and remains so today. The Liberty Wing led the El Dorado Canyon raids into Libya in 1986 and was the first F-111 fighter unit to deploy to the Gulf during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The Liberty Wing also anchored NATO forces during Operations Deliberate Force and Allied Force. What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of the range of sports activities and services, participant interests and needs, and the methods and processes that enable the employee to plan and conduct a variety of sports program activities to include providing input for statements of work for various contractors
2. Knowledge of the physical and psychological factors in individual and team sports as well as the nature, purpose, and organization of recreational and competitive individual and team sports activities.
3. Skill in effectively managing the financial and equipment resources provided for the sports program area to include estimating and tracking budgetary requirements; issuing and tracking use of equipment; controlling inventory; monitoring cleaning of facilities; and performing preventative, quarterly, and emergency maintenance and repair of sports equipment.
4. Skill in conducting clinics or seminars to inform and/or train coaches and officials; training and developing athletes in individual and team sports; and planning, organizing, and conducting tournaments or competitions.
5. Ability to establish program objectives or performance goals and assess progress toward their achievement, as well as to change program requirements within available resources with minimum adverse impact on satisfaction with the quantity and/or quality of sports activities.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including use of information technology sufficient to support required programs functions, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and customers.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period (remember to change if firefighter).
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Your work hours will be 37.5 hours per week on as Rostered schedule (Any 5 days out of 7 days where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies
8. Incumbent is subject to irregular tours of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
9. Incumbent must be able to do moderate lifting and carrying (45lbs) for short distances, and reach above the shoulders.
10. Certificate in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
11. Must complete and be able to maintain all mandatory training and certifications IAW AFI 34-266, Air Force Fitness and Sports Programs, or relevant official instructions if replaced.
12. Certification by the Cooper's Institute for Fitness, or equivalent, is desirable.
13. A college degree in physical education, exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, health education, or a related field is highly desirable.
14. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing, however positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
Qualification requirements:
Bachelors degree in a field appropriate to the position i.e. Sports, Fitness and Coaching OR
S-05 - Experience
S-07 - one year of specialized experience at S-05 level
