About the Role
Are you a qualified and experienced lawyer with a passion for safeguarding vulnerable adults?
Our busy, friendly and supportive children and adults legal team would like to hear from you. We are centrally located in Nottingham, close to the local courts and within easy reach of all transport links in and out of the city.
The work includes Court of Protection proceedings (in respect of adults and young people aged 16 – 18), mental health and the Care Act 2014. We provide advice and representation to the Adult Social Care, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Deputyship teams and Approved Mental Health Professionals on the full range of adult social care work including:-
1. Welfare, financial and deprivation of liberty issues arising under the Mental Capacity Act 2005
2. Application of the Care Act 2014 including ordinary residence disputes
3. Mental Health Act matters including displacement of nearest relative
4. Opportunities to become involved with SARs and Inquests
You will have secretarial and paralegal support, as well as enjoying effective collaboration with other members of the team. The role would suit a candidate with significant experience, including complex Adults Social Care legal work.
You will have excellent communication, analytical and drafting skills, be able to manage a full caseload and willing to undertake advocacy at the appropriate level
About You
The ideal candidate will:
· Be an admitted Solicitor with experience' PQE, or a Barrister with substantial' experience post call to the Bar.
· Have considerable experience in adult social care legal practice.
· Have spent at least a year working in a local authority legal department.
· Be confident managing a complex and varied caseload, undertaking advocacy at the appropriate level and supporting junior colleagues.
