KEY PURPOSE To assist the Assistant Head (Attendance) in providing support for students, parents and teachers in order to raise standards of attendance, involving monitoring and intervention To support Heads of Year and the Attendance and Welfare Officer with home visits, meetings and interventions to improve attendance. To support SA and PA students to integrate fully in school, checking on wellbeing and ensuring the correct support is in place. To deal effectively with parents, monitor and deal with any issues identified as part of the non-attendance and recommend ways to improve the Academy’s procedures to support improvements for students’ attendance To be a role model in terms of behaviour and create a high awareness of the role within school To support duties at break and lunchtime, ensuring high standards of behaviour are maintained by students To work with emotional based school avoidance students to provide in school support Following the sanctions, rewards and behavioral policy. ACCOUNTABILITIES: The appointee will be line managed by the Assistant Headteacher – Pastoral. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Attendance To provide support to the Assistant Head (Pastoral) to encourage good attendance by monitoring student attendance and punctuality to registration and lessons Support tutors and the Attendance Officer providing reasons for absence To attend meetings with parents or the Education Welfare Officer (EWO), Assistant Head Teacher (Attendance) and provide information for formal attendance meetings To analyse and respond appropriately to attendance data To meet with students to understand barriers to attendance and proactively work with school staff to remove barriers for students. To instigate and lead on early support for families with attendance issues. To support the production of letters and attendance plans for families To ensure short term reasonable adjustments are in place and agreed with SLT to support better student attendance. To assist in reintegration of students post an absence. Communications To utilise positive language with students, to engage with them to make improvements To acknowledge and reward improvements from students To be first point of call for response to concerns reported by parents regarding attendance To be available for pupils throughout the day To ensure that all relevant information is disseminated to staff To advise subject staff about issues relating to the year group To assist in the transition arrangements for all students who join after the commencement of the academic year To encourage and develop parental contacts with tutors and others as appropriate To liaise with outside agencies including social services, youth services, WAS, the police and child protection agencies. Other Duties To be aware of child protection issues and liaise when necessary, with named staff and be part of the school procedures To attend case conferences and planning meetings providing reports and information as required To attend tutor meetings and other meetings as required To liaise with individual teachers, departments in relation to learning of individual and groups of pupils To work with pastoral and subject staff to put in place and assist with appropriate arrangements to ensure all students successfully complete coursework To promote a positive school ethos To support before and after school activities/clubs Act as first aider when necessary (training will be provided). Ensure confidentially at all times To be an exemplary leader in dealings with staff, pupils, parents and outside agencies Any other duties and responsibilities within the range of the salary grade
