The post holder is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care and specialist practice in Dermatology, tailored to meet the individual needs of patients.
The post holder will be accountable for delivering care to a specific patient group and will take charge of the ward/department regularly.
They will organise their own time and that of junior staff, delegate tasks, and participate in teaching and education programs for staff and patients.
The role requires competence in conducting consultations face-to-face or remotely via video or telephone. The post holder will also independently carry out treatments for inflammatory skin conditions, such as phototherapy and patch testing, and support monitoring patients on systemic treatments like isotretinoin for acne in collaboration with ANPs and pharmacists.
Key Responsibilities
1. Knowledge of post-op wound management
2. Assessment of patients using dermatology assessment tools
3. Act as team leader/Primary Nurse managing a team of nurses
4. Support appraisal and personal development plans for junior staff
5. Ensure effective resource use and maintain stock levels
6. Assist in recruitment and staff induction, including preceptorship
7. Support tele-dermatology, MOHs surgery, phototherapy, and patch testing services
8. Maintain effective relationships with other hospitals within the Trust
9. Develop dermatology networks with regional partners to enhance clinical standards
10. Manage rostering, sickness, and absence policies
11. Participate in setting standards based on research findings
12. Act as a link nurse for specific areas of practice
13. Participate in systematic monitoring and evaluation of nursing practice
