The post holder will work in Paediatric Histopathology at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital under the Manchester Foundation Trust, providing scientific support services to patients and customers. They will work alongside Biomedical Scientists and Consultant Histopathologists, contributing to the day‑to‑day running of the department.
Working pattern: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday (in shifts).
Responsibilities
* Take part in the day‑to‑day running of the department while rotating through the main laboratory and Immunohistochemistry.
* Become proficient in designated areas of diagnostic work within the department and provide a comprehensive and appropriate laboratory service to patients and staff.
* Remain competent in designated areas of the department and perform tasks accurately and in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures.
* Ensure all work is completed timely and to satisfactory standards, seeking advice from senior staff when required.
* Maintain data integrity when enrolling samples on the laboratory information system following national and local guidelines.
* Liaise with clinical staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
* Monitor use of reagents and consumables and ensure stock levels are maintained to support continuous service.
* Assist in maintaining, calibrating and ensuring the appropriate quality control of highly complex laboratory equipment.
* Communicate results as appropriate.
* Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which they work.
* Provide training and supervision on MLA’s.
