Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Lead Case Manager plays a key role in the Student Resource Center at TCC by providing direct, non-counseling support services to students who seek assistance with basic needs insecurities. Specifically, the Lead Case Manager provides hands-on screening and advocacy for students as they navigate the complex web of social services, campus, and community resources. The Case Manager ensures that students who seek financial assistance are screened for SNAP eligibility and assisted with making SNAP applications. The Case Manager is also responsible for promoting the SNAP program to the TCC campus community.
The Lead Case Manager also supports college wide educational programs designed to encourage student engagement and promote well-being.
This position supervises campus-level staff across TCC’s four campuses, including staff in the Free Market at TCC.
This is a restricted funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
* In depth understanding of professional ethics in an educational and/or human services environment.
* In depth understanding of case management in a human services or educational context, including intake, needs assessment, screening, case documentation, and follow up.
* Experience in supervision of employees.
* Demonstrated understanding of issues related to college student mental health.
* Demonstrated experience assisting students with personal issues that may impact their academic progress and personal development.
* Understanding of the barriers to success faced by at-risk and underserved student populations, including low income, first generation, pregnant and parenting students, and students in the ALICE population.
* In depth knowledge of local resources that support at-risk populations, including social services and community organizations.
* Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
* Working knowledge of the principles of student affairs in a community college setting.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad demographic of students, faculty, and staff.
* Ability to interpret and apply Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act (HIPAA), Title IX, mandatory reporting laws, and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services and faculty support.
* Experience working with at risk populations within a human services or higher education context is required.
* Experience supervising staff is required.
