Job Description:

Help Shape Futures. Make a Real Difference.

Are you passionate about supporting young people to reach their full potential? Do you have the empathy, resilience, and drive to inspire confidence, ambition, and personal growth in the next generation? If so, we want to hear from you.

We are launching an exciting new approach to student support and tutorial, and we’re looking for Student Success Officers (SSOs) to help lead the way.

As a Student Success Officer, you’ll play a vital role in guiding our students through their college journey - providing targeted one-to-one guidance, proactive attendance monitoring, and facilitating developmental workshops. You’ll work closely with students to help them develop the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to succeed not just in college, but in life.

This is your chance to be part of something new, meaningful, and rewarding - making a daily difference in a supportive, values-driven environment.

About the Roles

Term Time Only + 2 Weeks (38 Weeks per Year)

Flexible working patterns available - tell us what works for you

We have a variety of roles on offer, and flexible working patterns are available. All roles are Term Time Only + 2 weeks (38 weeks per year). Please specify your working hours preference in the supporting statement section of your application form.

You’ll hold a caseload of students, working one-to-one with them to identify barriers to success, set meaningful goals, improve attendance, and support their personal growth. Alongside this, you’ll deliver group workshops to equip students with the knowledge and resilience to navigate the world around them and plan for their future.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, people-focused role where no two days are the same - this is the opportunity for you.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll need excellent people skills, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people. Experience of working with young people to motivate and guide them is essential, and if you’ve facilitated group workshops or have knowledge of safeguarding and the post-16 education system - even better.

For full specification requirements please refer to the attached job description.

In return, we offer:

* Enrolment into the West Midlands Pension Fund with generous employer contributions.
* Outstanding staff training and team building programme.
* ZEST is the College’s Health & Wellbeing initiative for our staff.
* Staff incentive schemes including Cycle to Work scheme and ‘Best of Walsall’ discounts.
* Simply Health care scheme.
* Employee Assistance Programme.
* Reward and recognition scheme.
* State of the art campuses with the latest industry facilities, including our Graduate Salon of Hair and Beauty and on site Little Professors’ Nursery.
* Access to ‘The Hub’ offering a Gym, Spa & Sports Clinic and The Littleton Restaurant.

We are passionate about promoting equality of opportunity and creating a working environment where diversity is recognised and celebrated and everyone has the chance to reach their full potential. Our environment is diverse in character and student population. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from Black Minority Ethnic origin and those with a disability.

Walsall College is committed to safeguarding our children and young people/vulnerable adults. We uphold fundamental British Values and expect all our employees to do the same. The post that you will be applying for is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. All appointments are subject to safer recruitment checks, including previous employment checks, online searches and an Enhanced DBS Check. It is an offence to apply for a role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
