Mechanical Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer
Major Healthcare Project – Surrey, UK
Our client operates as both a specialist MEP sub-contractor undertaking major MEP packages on complex and technical buildings, as well as undertaking some projects as the main contractor. Group turnover is already in excess of €2.5bn (and growing) and their order book is full for the next 3-years.
They are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the project delivery team on a £300m hospital extension and upgrade scheme in Surrey.
This is a high-profile healthcare project involving complex live-environment works, new build expansion, and significant refurbishment. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of critical mechanical building services systems, ensuring the project is delivered safely, compliantly, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of mechanical services packages from design coordination through installation, commissioning, and handover.
* Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and healthcare standards.
* Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, public health, and CSA teams to ensure fully integrated delivery.
* Manage and monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, and quality on site.
* Ensure mechanical installations comply with HTM, HBN, Building Regulations, and project specifications.
* Support inspection, testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover activities, including O&M documentation.
* Assist with programme planning, progress reporting, and resolution of technical issues.
* Participate in design and technical workshops, providing engineering input and buildability advice.
* Champion Health & Safety, ensuring all mechanical works are carried out in line with project and statutory requirements.
* For Senior-level candidates, provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and site teams.
Requirements
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
* Proven experience delivering mechanical building services on large-scale construction projects.
* Previous experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other technically complex environments is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of HVAC systems, pipework, plant installations, and commissioning processes.
* Knowledge of UK healthcare standards (HTMs / HBNs) is a strong advantage.
* Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
