Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SENTA) to support pupils in a Year 2 class at our welcoming primary school in Winsford. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to provide tailored support for children with additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
Key ResponsibilitiesPupil Support
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
* Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or EHCP targets.
* Support pupils with their learning across the curriculum, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
* Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in learning.
Classroom Support
* Work alongside the class teacher to deliver adapted learning activities.
* Prepare and organise classroom resources to support learning.
* Support differentiated teaching to meet the needs of all learners.
* Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
Behaviour and Emotional Support
* Promote positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
* Provide emotional and social support to pupils where needed.
* Help pupils develop appropriate social skills and relationships.
Monitoring and Reporting
* Observe and record pupil progress and provide feedback to the teacher and SENCo.
* Support assessment activities and record keeping where required.
* Contribute to review meetings and discussions around pupil progress.
Collaboration and Communication
* Work closely with teaching staff, SENCo, and external professionals.
* Build positive relationships with parents/carers where appropriate.
* Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
* Experience working with children in a primary school setting.
* Experience supporting pupils with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs).
* Good understanding of KS1 curriculum (particularly Year 2).
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
* Ability to work as part of a team and use initiative when required.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Criteria
* Relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent).
* Experience supporting phonics programmes (e.g., Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds).
* Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
* Experience working with EHCPs.
