About the Role As Head of Business Development, you will report directly to the Commercial Director and lead the strategic growth agenda across the group. This newly created role provides a unique opportunity to shape and unify business development efforts across multiple operating companies, each with distinct capabilities and client bases. You’ll initially oversee a small team of two, with a clear remit to expand as the group scales through organic growth and acquisitions. Your focus will be on identifying and securing new opportunities, building long-term client relationships, and driving consistency in BD practices across the group. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to position the group under the evolving Ancora brand, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and market positioning. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a group-wide business development strategy covering marine civils, infrastructure, defence, plant hire, and hydro engineering. Lead opportunity identification and pipeline development across public and private sectors. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders. Collaborate with company directors and project teams to shape winning bids and proposals. Establish BD processes and reporting frameworks to support scalable growth. Represent the group at industry events, forums, and client meetings. Support integration of future acquisitions into the BD function. What We’re Looking For Strong leadership experience in business development or sales, ideally within infrastructure, construction, or marine sectors. A background in developing and converting complex bids and proposals, working with technical stakeholders. Comfortable managing and growing a team, with a pragmatic and people-focused leadership style. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills – both internally and externally. A strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves and get things done.
