We are seeking a dedicated and professional Security Officer to join our team at South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust. Currently, we welcome and encourage female applicants for the role in order to support our female service users. This post is essential to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors across our mental health facilities.
Occupational Requirement for Female-Only Recruitment
This post is restricted to female applicants under Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010, which permits positive action in recruitment where there is a genuine occupational requirement (GOR). In this case, the role involves:
* Providing support to female service users, including those in distress or requiring physical intervention
* Conducting searches and security procedures in female-only areas or with female patients
* Maintaining dignity and safeguarding standards in sensitive clinical environments
This restriction is in place to ensure compliance with safeguarding protocols and to meet the therapeutic needs of female service users in mental health settings.
The role includes:
* Supporting the supervisor to ensure 24-hour security of the Trust sites and property
* Supporting the supervisor to ensure 24-hour monitoring of the Trust CCTV system
* Patrolling the Trust grounds and property, both internal and external
* Securing and checking doors, windows, and access/egress routes
* Providing instructions and advice to visitors, contractors, and staff as required
* Keeping the supervisor informed of ongoing issues encountered during duties

Additional responsibilities include:
* Eviction of trespassers
* Patrolling grounds and property, internal and external
* Challenging unescorted persons in secure areas without ID badges
* Assisting with searches for missing service users
* Car park and internal road checks for crime prevention and illegal parking
* Issuing Parking Charge Notices in line with Trust policies
* Assisting with cash collection and transfer
* Enforcing the no smoking policy
* Reporting and recording incidents
* Completing incident reports on the electronic system
* Supporting the supervisor as needed
* Operating the Switchboard outside working hours
* Completing paperwork accurately and timely
* Complying with Trust and Service Provider policies and procedures
* Attending security supervision sessions bi-monthly
* Wearing only Trust-approved uniform
