An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner to lead the development of a new haematuria early diagnosis pathway within urology for 18 months.
This role will drive improvements in timely cancer diagnosis, patient experience and pathway efficiency, through advanced clinical practice, leadership and service innovation.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide advanced clinical assessment and triage of haematuria referrals
2. Lead delivery of a nurse-led, one-stop haematuria triage
3. Coordinate diagnostics (including CT imaging) to enable results-led clinics in one stop clinic.
4. Support rapid treatment pathways, including streamlined pre assessment and direct listing for TURBT
5. Contribute to further development of nurse-led procedures ( LA cystoscopy and biopsy and TULA)
6. Lead on service improvement, audit and pathway redesign
7. Line management of the band 7 Haematuria CNS

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership within the haematuria service, ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality, and streamlined care throughout their diagnostic and treatment pathway. Key responsibilities include:
8. Undertake advanced clinical assessment, triage, and management of haematuria referrals, ensuring patients are appropriately prioritised and managed in line with local and national cancer pathway targets.
9. Lead and deliver a nurse-led, one-stop haematuria triage service, providing autonomous assessment, investigation planning, and patient management to improve efficiency and patient experience.
10. Coordinate and oversee diagnostic investigations, including radiological imaging such as CT scans, pathology requests, and other relevant tests, ensuring results are available to facilitate effective one-stop, results-led clinics.
11. Work collaboratively with consultants, radiology, diagnostics, theatre teams, and administrative staff to support rapid treatment pathways and reduce delays in care.
12. Facilitate streamlined pre-operative assessment processes and support direct listing for procedures such as Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT), ensuring patients progress efficiently through treatment pathways.
13. Support the development and expansion of advanced nurse-led procedures within the service, including local anaesthetic cystoscopy, bladder biopsy procedures, and Transurethral Laser Ablation (TULA), working within agreed competencies and governance frameworks.
14. Provide expert clinical advice and support to patients and families, ensuring clear communication regarding diagnosis, investigations, treatment options, and follow-up care.
15. Lead service development initiatives, identifying opportunities for pathway redesign, innovation, and service improvement to enhance quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
16. Design, participate in, and lead clinical audit, quality improvement projects, and data collection to monitor service performance and support continuous improvement.
17. Ensure compliance with Trust policies, professional standards, and national guidelines relating to urology and cancer care pathways.
18. Provide leadership, supervision, and line management support to the Band 7 Haematuria Clinical Nurse Specialist, including appraisal, development, and performance management responsibilities.
19. Contribute to education, training, and development of nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues within the service.
20. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to service reporting requirements as needed.
21. Act as a role model for advanced clinical practice, demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient-centred care.

Qualifications/Education
Essential criteria
22. Bachelors Degree in nursing, health or management related studies.
23. A Masters level qualification/in progress or equivalent experience
24. Be an independent prescriber according to the Trusts Non-medical prescribing policy/a willingness to undertake the NMP course

30. Broad clinical experience relevant to the post, including specialist skills and experience in speciality.

32. A proven track record of clinical service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management, financial management and change management.
33. Demonstrate use of financial acumen in patient/client, team, organisational and system level decision-making and demonstrate appropriate strategies to enhance quality, productivity and value
34. Experience of teaching patients and staff and others including health promotion and prevention orientation
35. Demonstrate evidence of engaging stakeholders and influencing the development and improvement of practice, patient care and service delivery.

37. Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of speciality with a wide range of approaches to the management of patients, demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking and be able to comprehensively assess patients for risk factors and early signs of illness

Ability to lead within the nursing profession and multi-professional working; within an organisation and across organisation boundaries, being able to identify and implement systems to promote their contribution and demonstrate the impact of advanced level nursing to the healthcare team and the wider health and social care sector
39. Ability to draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence based therapeutic interventions (which will usually include prescribing medication and actively monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions)
40. Excellent time management and organisational skills
41. Excellent written and advanced verbal communication skills demonstrating the use of a variety of media/IT skills
42. Evidence of managing clinical services, service innovation and up-to-date knowledge of nursing policy and strategy, together with successful change management experience and a proven track record in launching new initiatives
43. Ability to manage change and contain conflict ensuring resolution with positive outcomes, with use of negotiation skills
44. Ability to translate and integrate evidence based research/guidelines into the development of local pathways of care
45. Ability to develop working relationships locally, regionally and nationally
