3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
A Senior Social Worker is required to support the Duty and Assessment Team at Shropshire Council. The role involves undertaking statutory social work responsibilities for children and families, including assessments, safeguarding investigations, and court-related work. The successful candidate will manage a caseload involving child protection and children in need cases, ensuring that all work is completed in line with legislation, safeguarding procedures, and best practice. The position operates on a hybrid basis, with office attendance required during duty weeks.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample)
* Undertake statutory social work assessments including Single Assessments (SWA).
* Carry out safeguarding investigations under Section 47 and other relevant legislation.
* Complete court-related reports including Section 7 and Section 37 reports where required.
* Undertake Child in Need (CIN) assessments and contribute to Child Protection (CP) processes.
* Attend and contribute to core groups, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings.
* Prepare court statements and care plans where cases proceed to an initial court hearing.
* Manage and prioritise caseloads within the Duty and Assessment Team.
* Conduct home visits, risk assessments, and follow-up visits with children and families.
* Work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure safeguarding and appropriate service provision.
* Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with organisational standards.
* Participate in the duty rota (every other week), which requires office-based working.
Skills/Experience
* Qualified Social Worker with relevant professional registration (Social Work England).
* Significant experience within children’s social care, particularly in Duty and Assessment teams.
* Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and child protection procedures.
* Experience completing statutory assessments and safeguarding investigations.
* Ability to prepare high-quality reports and court documentation.
* Experience working with multi‑agency partners and attending safeguarding meetings.
* Strong assessment, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
* Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively and meet statutory deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Information
* Rate: £30.57 per hour (Umbrella).
* Working Pattern: Hybrid working with office attendance required during duty weeks (every other week).
