Key responsibilities:
* Provide routine clinical microbiology services for Wirral University Teaching Hospital and Wirral primary care.
* Work with a team of 2 other consultants, 2 speciality doctors, and 2 clinical scientists.
* Develop sub‑speciality interests alongside existing consultants.
* Conduct routine infection control activities with the named Infection Control doctor/practitioner.
* Handle out‑of‑hours on‑call at a frequency of 1:8 for Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust.
* Authorise and validate relevant serology/virology results that require consultant input.
* Participate in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) activities, including daily critical care ward rounds, AMS rounds, and bloodstream infection reviews.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) for prosthetic joint infections, haemology, C. difficile, endocarditis, renal, neonatal unit, and OPAT service.
* Provide microbiology and infection prevention & control (IPC) advisory services to in‑patients and out‑patients across Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals.
Qualifications and experience:
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination.
* Established microbiologist or newly qualified infectious diseases/medical microbiology doctor.
* Experience in clinical microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control preferred.
