About The Armed Forces Pathway
Mott MacDonald’s Armed Forces Pathway represents our commitment to recruiting, transitioning, developing, and supporting the armed forces community within our organisation. The Pathway supports military personnel transitioning into civilian careers and provides training, mentorship, and network opportunities tailored to the unique experiences and skills of military personnel. Duration: 12 months. Location: Newcastle / Glasgow / Altrincham / York / Brighton / Croydon. Programme: Participants will learn about project management within our Energy division and develop skills in a consultancy environment. You will be paired with a buddy from our Mott MacDonald Forces community.
About The Business Unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation, and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle and support the energy transition globally.
Overview Of The Role
The Energy Networks team is looking for a Project Manager to lead our projects in a growing portfolio, supporting clients in the transition to decarbonisation in the UK and Europe. You will contribute to new and existing projects and help improve our project management processes, driving delivery excellence and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
* Deliver project scope to time, quality, and cost
* Build and manage strong relationships with senior client representatives and internal stakeholders
* Establish effective communications across the project delivery team
* Lead problem solving and decision making
* Control internal and external commercial aspects under contract arrangements
* Manage risk to the business and to the client
* Work effectively on several projects concurrently to meet tight deadlines

Essential Criteria – Armed Forces Veteran Transitioning To Project Management
* Relevant Qualifications or Equivalent Experience: A degree in engineering or project management is beneficial, but equivalent experience from military service—such as leading operations, managing logistics, or overseeing technical teams—is highly valued.
* Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly across ranks and units, often in high-pressure environments.
* Leadership and Project Oversight: Experience in planning, executing, and managing complex missions or projects, including coordination of personnel, resources, and timelines.
* Adaptability and Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic, fast-paced settings with mission-critical outcomes.
* Team Collaboration: Skilled in working within diverse, cross-functional teams.
* Change and Risk Management: Familiarity with structured approaches to managing change and risks in operational environments.
* Decision-Making and Accountability: Comfortable making informed decisions under pressure with a strong sense of responsibility.
* Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Focus: Commitment to safety and wellbeing aligned with military standards.
* Mobility and Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel to different locations, including offices and sites, as required.

* Relevant PM qualifications (e.g., PMQ, Prince 2)
