The role
Senior Engineer (COMPEX Certified) Location: Catrine, Ayrshire Job Type: Permanent MRD Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our manufacturing client for a Senior Engineer to join their engineering team based in Catrine. This is an excellent opportunity for a COMPEX-certified engineer with a strong electrical background to join a fast-paced production environment where safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement are at the heart of the operation. The Role As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving plant performance across a busy production facility. Working closely with production and engineering teams, you will provide hands-on electrical and mechanical support, drive reliability improvements, and ensure compliance within hazardous area environments. Key responsibilities include: Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and packaging equipment. Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on motors, drives, sensors, control panels, and PLC-controlled systems. Conducting mechanical repairs including gearboxes, pneumatics, conveyors, and production machinery. Performing inspections and maintenance of Ex-rated equipment in accordance with COMPEX, ATEX, and BS EN 60079 standards. Supporting production teams with rapid fault diagnosis and breakdown response. Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and OEE. Assisting with plant upgrades, equipment installations, commissioning, and engineering projects. Ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and hazardous area regulations. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Valid COMPEX certification (Ex01-Ex04 minimum). A recognised electrical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent). Strong electrical fault-finding experience within a manufacturing environment. Experience working in hazardous or ATEX-rated areas. Knowledge of PLC diagnostics, ideally Siemens and/or Allen Bradley systems. Experience within FMCG, food & beverage, brewing, bottling, distilling, pharmaceutical, or process manufacturing environments. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. Desirable 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. IOSH Working Safely or Managing Safely.
