Offer description

Newcastle City Council is looking to recruit qualified Social Workers into their Learning Disability and Autism Team. Adult’s Social Care.

We have 2 posts open to Qualified Un-Progressed or Progressed Social Workers.

You would receive a warm welcome if you joined the Learning Disability and Autism Team at Newcastle City Council. We are using the innovative Newcastle 3 conversations model to enable our Social Workers to have open and interesting conversations with people and families who need our support, and with our colleagues and partners to foster collaboration to make things happen, so that we can be useful for people and help them get on better with their lives.
The team complete strength-based assessments to identify eligible needs and offer advice and interventions on how to prevent, reduce and delay their needs or to provide and review innovative support plans. The team carry out mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions to empower and protect individuals who may be unable to make decisions because they lack capacity. We also undertake legal work within the Court of Protection to ensure that people’s rights are upheld.

Across the posts we are looking for dynamic individuals who are committed to providing an excellent social work service and who bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers. You must be an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for adults. Candidates will be required to have the determination, commitment and social work value base to create positive outcomes for adults in the City.

These posts require you to be a qualified Social Worker. You should hold a relevant Social Work qualification such as the Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or CSS and be registered with Social Work England.

We recognise the demands of the role and the need to support staff; we offer regular one-to-ones with a team manager, small group supervision sessions and regular team meetings as well as learning and development opportunities relevant to the role.

Newcastle is a great place to work and some of the benefits of working with us are:
• Generous annual leave plus Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually.
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme.
• A range of flexible working options, including the ability to take two flexi days per month.
• Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave.
• Working in a supportive team environment.
• Training and development opportunities, including coaching and mentoring.
• Agile working.
We would enrol those eligible on the ASYE programme immediately.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

If you would like to have an informal conversation about this post, please contact Gillian Greenfield or Stuart Sewell, Team Managers on 0191 2788100.
