Job Description

Are you an experienced and driven professional looking to take on a pivotal leadership role within a school environment? We are working with a well-established primary school seeking a School Business Manager to oversee the strategic and operational running of key business functions.

This is a highly influential position, working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the effective management of finance, HR, administration, and premises—supporting the school in delivering outstanding outcomes for its community.

What You’ll Do

* Lead on financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance.
* Prepare and manage the school’s annual budget and long-term financial plans.
* Oversee payroll, pensions, and staff-related financial processes.
* Manage HR operations, including recruitment, safeguarding checks, employee records, and compliance with employment legislation.
* Maintain the Single Central Record and ensure adherence to safer recruitment practices.
* Lead the administration function, ensuring efficient systems, processes, and communication across the school.
* Line manage office and premises staff, supporting performance and development.
* Oversee premises management, including maintenance, health & safety, contracts, and risk assessments.
* Support procurement, service level agreements, and contract management to ensure value for money.
* Produce reports and data for leadership teams, governors, and external stakeholders.
* Support funding applications and identify opportunities for additional income.

Who We’re Looking For

* Proven experience in a School Business Manager or similar operational/finance leadership role.
* Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
* Knowledge of HR processes, safeguarding, and employment legislation.
* Experience managing teams across administration and/or premises functions.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
* High level of discretion when handling sensitive information.
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
