The Opportunity
You will join the Knowledge Program team within Arup University, playing a key role in shaping and delivering an ambitious, AI‑enabled transformation of knowledge management across Arup. As a Knowledge Engineer, you will support the integration of advanced AI capabilities into our global KM approach—elevating how we create, share, and apply knowledge across the firm.
Responsibilities
* In response to business needs support the design and development of AI‑enabled scalable technical solutions that enhance the creation, discovery, and reuse of knowledge across Arup.
* Conduct research into emerging AI, knowledge engineering, and KM technologies to inform strategic direction.
* Analyze existing KM processes, systems, and behaviors to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
* Support the development of business cases, implementation plans, and evaluation frameworks for proposed solutions and initiatives.
* Guide knowledge managers, domain experts, and project teams on structuring, curating, and governing knowledge assets.
* Lead and develop approaches to improve digital and AI literacy across the Knowledge Program community.
* Ensure compliance with data governance, information security, and responsible AI principles.
Qualifications
* Degree or Post Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as Knowledge Engineering, Library and Information Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Knowledge Management or equivalent professional experience.
* Significant professional experience in knowledge engineering, taxonomy and ontology development and management, or AI‑enabled information systems within a complex organisational environment.
* Demonstrated experience working with enterprise‑scale KM solutions, taxonomies, ontologies, or knowledge graph‑based systems.
* Working knowledge of AI tools, AI agent design and deployment, semantic modelling, metadata design, search technologies, and content lifecycle management.
* Capable of delivering high‑quality documentation, guidance materials, and training to support system adoption and digital literacy uplift.
* Ability to build strong working relationships with global knowledge communities, digital teams, and senior leaders.
* Ability to translate complex AI and knowledge engineering concepts into accessible language for non‑technical audiences.
* Track progress against project goals, reporting regularly on milestones, outcomes, and impact.
* Develop new relationships that expand the firm’s access to emerging AI, agentic and KM capabilities.
