Locally Employed Doctor (ST3+ ) Anaesthetics
Fixed term for up to 12 months.
Positions available in York and Scarborough.
The duties of the post include the provision of Anaesthetic services at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital Hospitals. Responsibilities comprise:
* Pre-operative assessment, management and pre-medication of patients scheduled to undergo routine and emergency surgery.
* Administration of anaesthetics (local and general).
* Post-operative assessment and management of post-operative problems in conjunction with surgical colleagues.
* Administration of elective and emergency neuraxial and general anaesthesia in the Obstetric department.
* Assistance in the Intensive Care Unit and with the Critical Care Outreach.

Main duties of the job
Based at Scarborough, this post supports the Trust’s service modernisation programme.
Unable to be an approved training position, you will receive:
* A named educational supervisor.

Essential Experience and Knowledge
* High level of clinical experience and skill in anaesthesia.
* Knowledge of good medical practice and GMC requirements.
* Commitment to Continuing Medical Education, Clinical Governance and audit.
* Experience teaching & supervising medical students and junior trainees, teaching clinical skills and critically reviewing research.
* Experience undertaking audits and presenting findings.
* Proficient written and spoken English for effective communication with patients and colleagues.
* Effective communication with multi‑disciplinary team, patients, relatives, GPs and other agencies.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and cope with stressful situations calmly.
* Understanding of current NHS issues, wider organisation and efficient resource use.
Desirable
* Substantive NHS experience (12 months continuous).
* Experience setting up/developing clinical services; supervising SpRs/specialist trainees.
* Research experience, peer‑reviewed publications, designing and implementing audit programmes.
* Familiarity with service organisation and development.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
* European ALS.
* Satisfactory completion of Foundation Year 1 and 2, or equivalent.
* 24 months experience in the specialty.
* Fit to practise safely and up to date.
Desirable
* MD or higher degree, or evidence of relevant research.
* Higher teaching qualification.
