Biomedical Scientist and Quality Officer.
Phoenix Hospital Group are seeking a highly motivated and HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and Quality Officer to join our multidisciplinary pathology laboratory. This is a unique duel role opportunity within an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory, combining routine scientific duties with responsibility for supporting and enhancing the Quality Management System.
Reporting to the Head of Pathology Services, the successful Biomedical Scientist and Quality Officer will work flexibly across laboratory disciplines, contributing to the delivery of a safe, effective and high quality diagnostic service whiles supporting governance, audit and continuous improvement activities.
Biomedical Scientist Duties
• Perform, validate, and authorise laboratory investigations within scope of competence
• Operate and maintain laboratory analysers, including troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
• Monitor and interpret Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assurance (EQA)
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of results
• Provide technical advice to clinicians and service users
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with SOPs
Quality Officer Duties
• Support the development and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS)
• Manage document control and ensure compliance with ISO 15189 standards
• Coordinate audits, CAPA processes, and non-conformance investigations
• Support UKAS accreditation and inspections
• Produce quality reports and performance metrics
• Promote a culture of quality, governance, and continuous improvement
Biomedical Scientist and Quality Officer.
Essential:
• BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science (IBMS accredited)
• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
• Minimum 1 year post-registration laboratory experience
• Strong knowledge of biochemistry techniques and laboratory processes
• Experience with quality control and assurance systems
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Desirable:
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio (completed or in progress)
• MSc in a relevant discipline
• Experience supporting quality management systems or audits
