A unique opportunity has arisen for a split post in both our Secondary CAMHS and Perinatal Mental Health multi-disciplinary teams based in Carmarthen. This offers the opportunity for a CAMHS experienced applicant to specialise in this important area of work impacting on early years development. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a flexible approach. You will be a team player who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary setting with experienced and skilled staff while being capable of providing clinical leadership for the team.
The Perinatal team, whilst based in Carmarthen, covers the three counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. This is a largely rural area with a mix of towns and villages. The team pride themselves in their continuous improvement approach to delivery of care, developing pathways and interventions as part of a wider system of support.
Both teams comprise team leadership, psychology, nursing and social work staff, psychological therapists, and a Pharmacist NMP. Both teams also sit within the same service leadership structure, enabling close working between them, as well as with the wider Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Clinical Care Group. This is an exciting time to join a service area that is looking to innovate in line with the ten year Welsh Government Mental Health Strategy.
The post holder will work alongside consultant colleagues to deliver high-quality clinical services in both CAMHS and Perinatal Mental Health across community and hospital settings. They will be responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, ensuring care is safe, effective, and patient-centred. As a senior clinician, the consultant will collaborate with medical, clinical, and managerial teams to support service development and uphold professional standards through supervision and continuous professional development.
Core responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering first-class clinical care, and contributing to teaching, training, and research. The consultant will ensure clinical practice aligns with Health Board policies and strategic plans, participate in audits and revalidation, and maintain confidence in the specialty’s business and development strategies. Specific duties span case management, strategic input, safeguarding, and service improvement within CAMHS and Perinatal Mental Health, with a strong emphasis on integrated working across health, education, and social care sectors.
