Main Function of Job
To contribute to the mission and vision of Union Theological College by providing high-quality teaching, as well as academic and pastoral support for students, thereby to participate in the Christian ministry and mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
Responsibilities and Duties
* To develop and deliver appropriate high-quality teaching for programmes delivered by Union Theological College and for ministerial training, under the supervision of the Head of the Biblical Studies department.
* To contribute to the spiritual and ministry formation of students for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
* To contribute to the life of the College as a community of learning, worship and faith;
* To share in the pastoral care of both students and residents of the College;
* To take part in the management and general administration of the College and Faculty, as required by the Principal;
* To work in accordance with relevant workplace policies and procedures e.g. Safeguarding, Health and Safety Policy, Data Protection Policy, and Equal Opportunity Policy.
* To undertake such other duties as are appropriate to the post as the Principal of UTC or the Council for Training in Ministry may require.
Required Criteria
* A PhD in New Testament from a recognised university or academic institution
* The ability to teach New Testament Greek
* Willingness to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education
* 2 years' experience of leadership in a Christian congregation or para-church organisation
* Previous experience of teaching New Testament and Greek in an academic or educational environment
* Proven administrative competence e.g. organisational skills, reporting writing, etc.
* Appropriate IT skills and experience
* A personal Christian faith, normally demonstrated by active membership of a Christian congregational (the essential nature of this post requires that the successful candidate be a Christian as provided for under excepted occupations in the Fair Employment Treatment (NI) Order 1998)
* Must evidence an understanding of, and commitment to, working within the Christian ethos and doctrinal framework of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
* Respectful of the diversity of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, including theological diversity
* Willing to be flexible in working arrangements and hours to suit the needs of the post
Desired Criteria
* Some expertise in both Testaments generally, or a willingness to develop same
* Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education
* Previous experience of providing pastoral care
