An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Planner to join a high-profile major civil engineering project based in London. This role is central to project delivery, supporting planning, scheduling, and performance reporting across a complex, multi-interface environment.
🔍 The Role
You will support the management of the planning function and ensure robust, accurate programmes are developed, maintained, and actively used to drive delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
* Reviewing project contract documents and developing detailed, fully resourced programmes
* Maintaining and updating construction programmes based on live site progress
* Producing weekly progress reports, weekly work plans, and monthly dashboards
* Supporting Package Managers and site teams with planning-related matters
* Identifying programme risks and areas of concern, working with delivery teams to develop mitigation measures
* Assessing scope changes, additional works, and compensation events, liaising closely with commercial teams on cost and contractual impacts
* Managing interfaces and coordinating early programming to support efficient delivery
* Preparing visual planning materials and undertaking programme risk analysis
* Liaising with client planners, package managers, and third-party stakeholders
* Ensuring planning standards, systems, and procedures are consistently followed
👷 About You – Requirements
* Strong experience delivering heavy civil engineering projects, ideally large or complex schemes, with exposure to tunnelling and M&E
* Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6
* Proven ability to cost-load and resource-load programmes
* Capable of building programmes from first principles, including own take-offs, defining outputs and durations, and developing robust logic-linked sequences
* Confident in how programmes interact with NEC contracts
* Experience working in live construction environments with multiple interfaces
* Potential to manage or mentor other planners as the role and team develop
* A confident, reliable self-starter who can work with minimal direction
