We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader - Barley Ward who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Nurse Team Leader post is a vital and valued role within the multi-disciplinary team. Based in Barley Ward they provide expertise and compassionate leadership in the delivery of high quality and safe patient-centred care and support an open culture of continuous learning for all.

As a Team Leader, you will ensure that patient care is of the highest possible standard and provide advice and support to all staff working in the area.

You will be responsible for the development, monitoring and auditing of standards for use in the clinical area and ensure that care delivered in the clinical area is of the highest quality, supported by research and in accordance with local and national policies, procedures and Guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will promote, review and develop high standards of professional practice, competencies, protocols and high quality care delivery within Trust and Departmental policies, protocols and guidelines.

In conjunction with the Ward Manager, you will be responsible for the organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for patients within the department, ensuring that all members of the team deliver excellent patient care within the framework of the relevant policies and procedures.

You will be required to deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence in all aspects of operational management.

The post holder will ensure the effective maintenance of paper and integrated electronic communication systems to enhance clinical practice.

You will also oversee the ordering, stock levels and security of drugs kept in the department as per Trust protocol.

Qualifications / Training


Essential criteria

* Registered nurse on part 1 or part 12 of the NMC register
* Evidence of professional development and commitment to life long learning
* Ability to produce personal professional portfolio
* Mentorship/ Preceptorship course
* ATLS, ALS, ILS and ATNC


Desirable criteria

* Appropriate post registration qualification


Previous Experience


Essential criteria

* Demonstrable experience within a busy urgent and emergency care environment
* Demonstrable experience as a registered nurse at Band 5
* Evidence of effective leadership
* Evidence of excellent and motivational teaching skills
* Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings with patients, relatives, carers, senior leaders and other members of staff of varying levels of understanding
* Ability to work to deadlines in a highly pressurised environment
* Ability to use sound judgement skills and when to escalate issues and problems

* Evidence of triage competencies
* Evidence of effective team working skills
* Excellent time management and organizational skills
* Effective IT skills
* Demonstrable understanding of professional nursing issues

* Understanding of skill mix and workload patterns
