What is the role?
The purpose of the role is to manage the material purchasing for sites in the region through effective controls, working under guidance from the Group Procurement team, meeting standards, maintaining the project programme, and producing reports for senior management to establish site status.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Manage purchasing for up to 6 sites of varying complexity, ensuring Site Managers' queries and requisitions are processed promptly to maintain build programmes and quality.
2. Schedule materials from drawings and raise purchase orders for Site Managers to call off, ensuring timely and within-budget construction.
3. Produce material cost analysis to maintain competitive prices and budgets, enhancing regional profitability.
4. Stay updated with the latest building products and legislation to uphold company standards.
5. Ensure orders are raised following Persimmon Group Procurement Procedures for consistency and quality.
6. Utilize the Persimmon Group COINS system and assist the Quantity Surveyor in setting up new sites and establishing budgets to predict site profitability.
7. Collaborate with other departments (Construction, Sales, Customer Care, Accounts) to ensure efficient site operations.
8. Comply with and promote adherence to the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy.
9. Lead the buying team and maintain KPIs across all areas.
10. Mentor and train junior team members to develop their skills and responsibilities, improving regional productivity.
11. Assist the Commercial Manager/Director in business decisions and participate in regional meetings as a subject expert.
What experience do I need?
* Previous Buyer experience within a construction company, with ability to take-offs from drawings.
* Self-motivated, inquisitive, eager to learn, with a strong work ethic.
* Adaptable, with a consistent management style with site teams and supply chain.
* Proficient in Excel.
* Experience with COINS is advantageous.
* Full Driving Licence is essential.
