Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse to join East Durham Community Mental Health Team.

This is a pivotal role within the team, and there is a variation which will allow you to develop and grow as a mental health nurse.

There are varied opportunities for training and development, and peer support and supervision systems are in place.

Candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying

Main duties of the job

To improve the lives of people with mental ill health by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and well being.

To be compassionate in meeting the needs of patients and their carers.

To work as part of an integrated community team, working

collaboratively and in partnership with local authority services.

To be professionally accountable and responsible for patient care undertaking a range of clinical/therapeutic interventions in patients' homes and other community settings.

To promote social inclusion, community access and participation through the provision of patient care.

To facilitate others in the team to develop competence by providing leadership, day to day supervision, clinical advice and clinical supervision to associate practitioners, community support workers and students as appropriate.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health.

To promote at all times a positive image of the Adult Mental Health Service and the wider Trust.

Job responsibilities

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. Qualifications

Essential

1. Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council - RNMH or RNLD
2. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
3. Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent. Must be achieved within 6 months
4. Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing clinical supervision OR willingness to work towards within 6 months
5. 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework)

Experience

6. Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
7. Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate.
8. Supervising or assessing students on practice placement.
9. Working in a multi-disciplinary team
10. Quality improvement activities

Knowledge

Essential

11. Understanding of relevant legislation (. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
12. Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
13. Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
14. Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
15. Research and development methodology.
16. Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
17. Working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
