Offer description

Overview

We are looking for a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to join our friendly psychology team within Getting More Help Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Abingdon on a permanent basis. We welcome applications both from qualified clinicians and those who are shortly due to complete their training. You will be part of an experienced and reflective multi-disciplinary team offering general and specialist assessments in addition to holding a protected psychology caseload and contributing to the team's work more broadly. You will have the skills to make thoughtful contributions to MDT thinking and the confidence to work autonomously. You will offer a range of psychological interventions, depending on your experience, with the opportunity for both individual and group work. Psychological thinking is valued in the team and you will have the chance to offer consultation to colleagues. You will receive regular clinical supervision from a senior clinical psychologist, as well as management supervision within an environment that values mutual support and the skills of team members. There are spaces offered within the team for assistance with clinical work and managing the professional and personal demands of working in CAMHS. Training and CPD opportunities are offered in line with the annual staff PDR process.

Responsibilities

* To offer evidence-based, psychological interventions to children, young people and their families experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties, using a range of models and approaches depending on your experience and skills.
* To offer psychological assessment and consultation to clients and colleagues to support good clinical decision making and effective care planning.
* To contribute to the wider work of the team through undertaking initial assessments, holding care co-ordination responsibilities for a small number of children/young people, and being part of the duty rota (following an initial induction and shadowing period).
* To attend and contribute a psychological perspective to MDT meetings, case discussions and other regular staff spaces.
* As appropriate to your stage of development, to offer supervision and/or support to assistant and trainee clinical psychologists and colleagues within the MDT.
* To contribute to relevant teaching, training, audit and service development opportunities.

What we offer and development

The wellbeing of our administrative and clinical staff is top of our agenda; we have an active Wellbeing Team and regular opportunities for staff support. This includes reflective care space sessions for staff, supervision groups and monthly opportunities to socialise outside of work hours. Our psychology team has a strong culture of working integratively, including CBT, 3rd wave approaches (DBT-informed practice, ACT and CFT) and systemic practice. We believe understanding the context of the young person is fundamental and will often work in integrative ways to meet the needs of our heterogeneous population. Clinicians are encouraged to develop skills in a range of therapeutic approaches and to work autonomously in line with client needs and NICE guidelines. We are actively involved in developing current service provision, including establishing a more trauma-informed offer and developing a package of responsive interventions. There is an opportunity to get involved in service evaluation and research projects. Our Trust and the Oxford DClinPsy training course support psychologists in obtaining BABCP accreditation if desired. Supervision and training opportunities are available to support this. Training and development are a priority; we support clinicians who want to challenge themselves and develop their knowledge and skill base. The Trust supports training in DNV-A and CBT Trauma Focused Therapy with opportunities for further development in supervision and EMDR. Staff in wider CAMHS teams are proficient in a wide range of therapies with a culture of skill sharing. All development opportunities are considered through the PDR/Appraisal framework.

All new starters have a thorough induction process, local and Trust wide, to create a positive supportive working environment and to learn key elements of the role over a reasonable timescale.

Other requirements

* Appointment to this post is subject to the Trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask referees to respond promptly to reference requests.
* We are advocates of flexible working and many roles offer flexible employment options to help balance work and personal life.
* Employees are expected to undertake mandatory and statutory training related to their role.
* We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
