Pre-registration Trainee, Pharmacy Technician – NHS Tayside
Join NHS Tayside as a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician. You will be based in one of our GP practices – Carseview (Dundee) or Perth Royal Infirmary (P&K) – and work across primary and secondary care sites.
We are looking for individuals who are eager to develop a professional healthcare career and are ready to study and work as a Pre‑registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician within our community pharmacies, hospitals and GP services.
Training Programme
* 24‑month Fixed‑term / Secondment
* Fixed start date: week commencing Monday 2 March 2026 – this date is non‑changeable.
* Protected study time: one day per week; trainees are expected to study an additional four hours per week on their own time.
* SQA Diploma in Pharmacy Services (completed over 2 years) includes:
o Professional Development Award in Pharmacy Services – SCQF level 7
o SVQ in Pharmacy Services – SCQF level 8
* Successful completion qualifies you to apply for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and for Pharmacy Technician posts.
Role Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, patient‑focused pharmacy services across hospitals, community pharmacies, GP practices, care homes and patients’ homes.
* Work with pharmacy teams to support medication management and patient safety.
* Contribute to the pharmacy team's overall service delivery while undertaking your training.
Payment and Hours
The role requires a 37‑hour per week commitment, including weekend and public holiday rota duties. Pay is governed by Annex 21: Year 1 – 70 % of the full‑qualified rate maximum; Year 2 – 75 % of the full‑qualified rate maximum.
